Peppermint
Mentha piperita
The penetrating essence of Peppermint is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and flowers of the herb. This oil is both cooling and refreshing on the skin and extremely versatile for home use. When used in a diffuser, its head clearing aroma is stimulating and helps to overcome fatigue. A well-know digestive aid, Peppermint is also effective in the treatment of nausea, offering a welcome remedy for upset stomach when used in inhalation. Its anti-inflammatory action and cooling effects make it very useful as a natural pain reliever for muscular pain and migraine headaches.
PROPERTIES: Digestive aid, respiratory aid, anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant.
BLENDS WELL WITH: Eucalyptus, Lemon, Rosemary, Grapefruit, Lavender.
PRECAUTIONS: Peppermint is highly stimulating and should not be used in concentrations higher than 2%.
For a reviving foot soak: To relieve tired, swollen feet, add three drops Peppermint to a large bowl of water. Soak feet for ten minutes.
For relieving migraine headaches: Blend three drops Peppermint and eight drops lavender with ½ oz. Almond oil. Gently massage the oil into the temples, avoiding the eye area.
For relieving muscular aches and pains: The cooling effects of Peppermint are highly effective when combined with the penetrating effects of Eucalyptus. Blend five drops of each with one oz. massage base oil.
For reducing fatigue: Use six drops of Peppermint in the diffuser in the workplace or study to increase productivity and concentration.
