Geranium
Pelagronium graveolens
The essential oil of Geranium is steam distilled from the flowers and leaves of a shrub native to Madagascar. The feminine floral essence is commonly used in perfumes for its rose-like fragrance and in soaps and cosmetic preparations for its mild cleansing and beautifying properties. On the emotional level, it has a balancing and claming action on the nervous system, making it useful for alleviating irritability and sudden mood changes.
PROPERTIES: antidepressant, balancing, refreshing, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, toning.
BLENDS WELL WITH: Bergamot, Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Clary Sage, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender, Neroli, Patchouli, Sandalwood.
For pregnancy: Use six drops in one oz. of massage base or for inhalation to reduce the emotional imbalance caused by pregnancy.
For treating acne: Use four drops of Geranium in a steam facial to cleanse congested, sluggish skin.
For a restorative massage: Blend six drops each of Geranium and Lavender in one oz. massage base oil.
For lifting depression and irritability: Try a warm bath with four drops Geranium and six drops Rose in a bat oil base.
For a delightful room fragrance: Geranium freshens the atmosphere and repels insects. Add eight drops to an essential oil burner or lamp ring diffuser.
For a fragrant perfume: Blend six drops Geranium and twenty drops Rose with one oz. Almond oil. This combination can also be added to two oz. water in an atomizer.
