L-Arginine
L-Arginine has appeared in many products in the past couple of years as an active ingredient in sexual support products. It is required to carry out the synthesis of nitric oxide (one of the most essential substances which influence sexual function in both men and women); by relaxing blood vessels and allowing more blood to flow through arteries.
It has also recently gained popularity as a potential nonprescription treatment for high cholesterol and is used by the immune system to help regulate the activity of the thymus gland, which is responsible for manufacturing T Lymphocytes. (These are the T-cells, which assist the immune system and body defenses). For this reason it may be a very useful nutritional supplement for people suffering maladies which suppress the immune system. In the pancreas, it is used to release insulin; in the pituitary gland, it is a component of human growth hormone.
