Holy Basil dates back many years in various countries and especially in India. It has three or four names but it is all the same. To be effective it should contain 2% Ocimun Sanctum Leaf. Our Holy Basil contains more of the herb in each capsule (approximately 700 mg) than other companies. Holy basil is supportive in reducing stress and cortisol, increasing physical and emotional endurance, inhibiting the enzyme (cox-2) that can cause inflammation and immune enhancement.
Cortisol is the primary Glucocorticoid produced by the adrenal cortex gland. Ninety percent of the secreted cortisol in circulation is bound to protein, mainly to Cortisol-Binding Globulin (cbg). Cortisol's principle physiological actions: increase Hepatic Gluconeogenesis, increase Hepatic Glycogenolysis, increase protein catabolism, inhibit acth secretion (negative feedback mechanism) and renal excretion.
Note that serum cortisol concentration show diurnal variation, with its’ highest concentration being after waking, then declining throughout the day
